Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946 to a low-income family, with twelve kids eventually included, discovered early that she could escape suffering through her vivid imagination. Her songs were written before she could write or read. She got her first guitar at age 8 and started singing at the Knoxville Tenn radio station at age 11. That same year she made her debut recording for Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. While in high school, she established herself in the school community but her dream was greater. In the exact day that she was able to graduate from high school, it was 1964. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her first two charting albums from Monument Records. Porter Wagoner had been looking for female performers to join his syndicated show from the beginning. Parton got her first gig in 1967 she signed with RCA Records by 1968, she joined the Grand Ole Opry. The show was cancelled by Wagoner, but in 1974, because her albums on her own like Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene beat out their collaborative albums. Parton's hit song, I'll Never Be Loved by You (for Wagoner), hit the top of the. #1 spot following their split. For the first time, in 1974.
